Project Description
Kern Valley is a game-based learning (GBL) concept. It is designed to integrate within an eLearning course on kerning for a target audience of higher education graphic design students between the ages of 18 and 25. The learning outcomes this GBL activity would align with are identifying and correcting poor kerning. The game would be decentralized and available to play online with access through an LMS and SCORM compliant for assessing students' completion and success rates.
Game Presentation
Above is an overview and demonstration of the game mechanics, learning outcomes, and integrated assessment within Kern Valley.
Above and below are screenshots from the gameplay animation process. After graphics were created in Illustrator they were imported to After Effects. The scenery elements (mountains, grass, fencing) as well as the player were coded in loop expressions. This allowed the author to only focus on game mechanics for motion, speeding up the process.
